To solve the roadside air pollution for a better life

ADPL is committed to making life better for HK citizens. Poor air quality poses aserious health threat to everyone, rich and poor.
According to a survey by  The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, published on 12 March 2010, sections of Nathan Road, Ma Tau Wai Road, HennessyRoad and Des Voeux Road Central have Hong Kong's highest roadside air pollutionincluding nitrogen dioxide and mono-nitrogen oxides. These roads are majorcorridors for franchised buses. Nearby residents, schools, and especially passengerswaiting at bus stops suffer the most.

ADPL calls for all buses used on routes which run through the most polluted sections of Ma Tau Wai Road, Nathan Road, Hennessy Road and Des Voeux Road Central to be replaced with Euro V, hybrid or electric buses before end of 2013. Buses on other routes should be replaced before 2016. We estimate that this requires  2000 new buses which is around $2.7 billion.

In the meantime, we urge the Environmental Protection Department to speed up designating polluted roads as low emission zones, restricting all vehicles with older engines. We also urge the Planning Department to review the air ventilation of major traffic corridors and to rezone nearby sites to open space to improve the air quality.
